The Ideal Screen Size For Your Needs

Last Updated August 17, 2020

What is The Ideal Screen Size For Your Needs?

Be it for console gaming, photo editing, or professional use, your personal computer,  must be suited to your needs and purposes. This article discusses ideal screen sizes for professional and casual gamers, photo editors, and video editors.

Most desktop monitors of today are in the 21-27 inch range. There are Sizes smaller than that makeup with other features like touch screens, while bigger sizes reserved for resolutions higher than 1080p. 21-24 inch monitors are the best fit for 1080p resolutions, as a larger size would make the pixels easily distinguishable from a close-up view and risk aliasing. Proportions between 24-27 inch work best with UHD and QHD resolutions, as they look sharp, and detailing is well displayed. Smaller sizes do not work for this purpose.

When it comes to screen size, viewing distance is a significant factor in choosing what’s ideal for you. You need to sit a range farther away from larger monitors if you want to avoid eye fatigue. A comfortable viewing distance for people, in general, should be proportionate to the diagonal size of the monitor. Suppose, if it is a 24-28 inch diagonal, the user must be seated about 24-48 inches away from the screen or maybe farther if you experience eye fatigue.

Gaming

There is no one particular size of monitor that is fit for all gamers. It usually depends on individual preferences, and factors like resolution and viewing distance. With so many types of screens available in the market, choosing a monitor size for gaming can be especially tricky. Given below are the uses of different sizes of screens for gaming:

24-25 inch:

A 24 inch Gaming Monitor

The pros for this size of a screen is that the user has to turn their headless since everything usually fits in their field of vision, which makes it very good for competitive gamers who require to refer to an on-screen overlay like maps during gaming. Another advantage is that it doesn’t take up too much space.

Bigger screen sizes are becoming more popular since these monitors score low on productivity. Resolutions available for this size are generally 1080p or 1440p. The former is ideal for competitive gamers as the screen is small enough to avoid focusing on individual pixels, and doesn’t put too much strain on the graphics card.

27 inch:

A 27 inch Monitor

The advantage of this size of a screen is that the space provided is large enough to work with multiple windows simultaneously. You won’t have to turn your head as much if you sit at an ideal distance. Also, many 27-inch screens allow switches to portrait mode, which is excellent if you want to chat with teammates during the game.

1440p is the ideal resolution for this size since the text doesn’t appear bright at 1080p resolution. 4K is also available, but it is appropriate for office work and not gaming, since the high resolution may put stress on the graphics card. However, gaming with Xbox One X or PS4 Pro may have a pleasant experience since these monitors usually have a low input lag.

28-32 inch:

A 32 inch Gaming Monitor

Ideal to the game with a 4K resolution, this size will give you a great experience with atmospheric games, RPGs and turn-based games since these do not call for fast reaction time. They are usually restricted to a 60Hz refresh rate and meant at a distance. Viewing the monitors up close may distort color-reproduction, and it may look non-uniform if looked at from the sides.

34 inch+

They are versatile and provide an exciting experience as the broader field of view is an advantage for the awareness and reflex required in certain games. It delivers excellent overall picture quality with exceptional color clarity. It has excellent coverage for all of the color space used in most content and can give a pleasant experience with photo editing.

34 Inch Curved Monitor

The drawbacks are its black uniformity and contrast ratio, so it is a disadvantage for dark room viewing experience. However, the ultra-wide viewing angles are just the perfect fit for sharing your screen with others. The abundance of screen space makes it a suitable environment for productivity, allowing the user to be efficient and comfortable.

Photo and Video editing

A beautiful monitorFor photo and video editing purposes, the main factors that must be kept in mind while choosing a screen size are physical size, definition or pixel range, format (panoramic or classic), and resolution. This section divides into some of these factors to talk for a screen size that might be best suited for your requirement

Physical Size

Larger the screen, more the space to view your image better, and work with tools on the photo and video editing software. Though smaller screens between 24-27 inches are best suited for working on a desk, panoramic or ultra-wide screens have the advantages of multiple screens, a single take on the graphics card, and only one calibration.

Large Curved Monitor for photo and video editing

Pixel Range

Qled Monitor

Most 27-32 inch screens have a capacity of 2560 pixels horizontally. You can still keep a workspace for your image at 1900 pixels while displaying two columns of tools in Photoshop. A 24-inch screen reduces the workspace, while panoramic monitors display up to 3440 pixels, but then again, they are too big to fit on a desk.

Resolution

4K Monitor on display

While photo-editing software written to keep in mind a 24 inch full HD screen, larger screens brought about better decisions. However, a 24-inch screen allowed perfectly readable text, while larger screens with higher resolutions significantly decreased the text size.

We reccommend watching the following video for an in-depth review about choosing the best monitor for photo editing.

IPS, VA, TN – What’s The Difference? and Which Panel Should You Invest In?

Last Updated July 24, 2020

The monitor lends vivacity to your PC system; it is a prerequisite of functionality. Without a competent monitor, your tasks are undoubtedly devoid of functionality. Typically monitors are marketed without a usage specification.

Creating a vision board of the kind of engagement your monitor is subjected to will make your investment worthwhile. It is safe to say that a monitor and the overall PC system undergo erratic alterations. You do have the upper hand when there are plenty of options to choose from. However, you can undoubtedly get lost in the bounty.

How do you make an expensive purchase, what makes a specific Monitor better for you over its counterparts? To save you from the plight and disappointment, we will break down the three basic types of the monitor – VA, TN and IPS monitors, in the market today.

The IPS Monitor Panel

IPS monitors are your best bet when your goal is to have a stunning display. These monitors anchor the liquid crystals in a parallel format, enabling you to achieve vibrant colors. The quavering patterns of the liquid crystals is a significant characteristic of the IPS monitor. The design is targeted to cope up with technical limitations in TN monitor panels.

IPS monitors are infamous for their consistent color accuracy. The forthcoming viewing angles enable the monitor to deliver outstanding colors when viewed from multiple angles. There are several variants to an IPS monitor panel, including S-IPS, H-IPS, e-IPS, P-IPS, and PLS. The PLS panel is the latest technology among IPS monitors panels.

TN Monitor Panel

A picture displaying an IPS and a TN monitor display

TN or the Twisted Nematic monitor panel follows an LCD technology. These panels are well-loved among professional and general users for its cost-effectiveness and higher refresh rates that results in a speedy performance. Besides, the widespread usage, TN monitors are a gamer-favourite, which is why they are typically advertised as gaming monitors. On the contrary to the IPS panel, a TN panel suffers by a large margin in terms of below-average viewing angles and color contrast.

The VA Monitor Panel

A dual monitor setup

The Vertical Alignment or the VA monitor is another LCD mechanics. VA monitor panels are known for their unmatched contrast ratio and image depth. The most apparent disparity for a VA panel is that it has the longest response time compared to the TN and IPS monitors. If you skim through the market of monitor panels as a gamer, a VA panel, might not be the most suitable choice. However, if you appreciate contrast and image quality, the VA monitor is a competitive choice.

Spec-wise Evaluation between an IPS, VA and TN monitor panels

For a more decisive approach, you must understand the characteristics, performance, and technical differences between an IPS, VA, and TN panel. We apply a more comprehensive approach to the three different types and their unique features in the section below.

The Viewing Angles

The viewing angle is essentially the most distinct attribute that differentiates the three types of monitors. The TN panel has the faintest viewing angles; there is a significant deviation in terms of colors, contrast, and both directions. If you still want to invest in a TN panel, you will need to spend more, which is not viable in some cases.

A photo illustrating viewing angles between an IPS and a TN panel.

On the other hand, VA and IPS panels have better viewing angles when compared to the TN monitor. For streamlining your choice even further, VA panels do offer competitive angles. However, they still cannot match the ones provided by the IPS monitor panel.

The Brightness and Contrast

Since all the thA beautiful monitorree panels have backlight quality, brightness cannot be considered a deciding feature. But the contrast ratio is the conclusive margin for choosing between the three types of panels.

TN and IPS panels have a similar contrast ratio of 1000:1. Among the two, the TN panel still has the most stunted contrast ratio. Most basic TN panels have a 700:1 which can stretch out to 900:1 if you invest more. A VA panel offers the best contrast ration, and on that front, even the infamous IPS panel cannot compare. Most entry-level, VA panels begin at a contrast ratio of 2000:1. The forthcoming display ability of the VA panel makes it your best bet.

The Color Quality

The color quality is a significant difference than helps differentiate between the TN panels and both VA and IPS monitors. For a more comprehensive approach, you need to understand the two concepts that mark color quality. We can better understand the color quality as color depth and color gamut.

MSI gaming monitors

Typically, all TN displays, even the entry-level models start at 6-bit supplemented with frame rate control technology. If you invest a more massive amount, you can achieve an 8-bit scale with the TN panel. This again might not be the smartest choice when the IPS and VA panel offer standard range under more competitive prices.

The Refresh Rates

So far, in our deliberations, the TN has the worst performance in terms of color contrast and viewing angles. But it fares better than the two other types in the context of higher speed. TN panels are known for the best response and refresh rates.

The present, latest models of the TN panel, can hit, the 240 Hz at both 1080p and 1440p resolutions. VA panels can reach the 200 Hz mark with ease with ultra-wide screens. However, most entry-level VA panels are limited to 165 Hz. IPS panels have a minimum refresh rate of 60 Hz.

Here is LinusTechTips explaining expanding on the topic of Refresh Rates in a 5 minute YouTube video.

Our Verdict

As an average buyer, it is highly unlikely that you will notice the subtle differences in more complex spec types of the three monitor panels. While VA panels have a functional limitation in terms of refresh rates, most IPS panels can fare better even with minimal readings.

If you wish to have a subtle advantage or the best of both world experiences, the IPS panel is a suitable choice. However, if you want a monitor panel for a more specific purpose, the TN panels offer speedy performance. They are ideal for a stellar gaming experience under a budget; however, you compromise over the display attributes. VA panels have the last in the race when it comes to response rates, but they have stunning displays. There is, in fact, no decisive yes or no when it comes to monitor panels. Once you know the primary task you assign to your newly bought panel, you will most certainly make the right choice.

Last Updated July 11, 2020

Gaming Chair illuminating in the dark

Gaming technology is advancing at a rapid pace, thanks to gaming becoming more mainstream. Many gamers are looking for the best gaming accessories to take their gaming sessions and performance to the next level. The right console, keyboard, monitor, and joystick can make all the difference in the world when it comes to performance and enjoyment.

Gaming chairs are another essential gaming accessory. These gaming chairs have been around since the 2000s, but they are becoming more and more popular over time. It’s hard to believe what seems like a small piece of furniture could make a difference in gaming performance, but it’s true.

If you want to take your gaming to the next level but aren’t sure if you want a gaming chair just yet, here are seven reasons why gaming chairs are worth it.

Better Posture

Drawing of a better posture while sitting in a gaming chair.Let’s be honest and say a lot of gamers have bad posture, which leads to health problems down the line. Sitting isn’t great for the human body as it is. Being sat down hinders blood flow to the lower body and puts pressure on joints and muscles. It all builds up and does damage over time.

Gaming chairs are great because they are designed to be ergonomic. Gaming chairs are made to tackle the problems of bad posture and sitting uncomfortably. The best gaming chairs are designed to take the pressure off of sensitive areas in your neck and back, so you can stay comfortable. Their design can even improve blood circulation rather than hinder it as a regular chair would.

The adjustable height, along with neck and head support, also mean that your neck and back are protected against discomfort and injury.

Better Performance

Man focused on a videogame. It’s true that gaming chairs really can boost gaming performance. For a start, you’re more comfortable and are better able to focus and concentrate. You’re also less likely to pause your game to stretch or readjust yourself on the chair. You’ll save time and avoid interruptions that take you out of the “zone” where you perform your best. Sitting in a gaming chair also lets you play for more extended periods of time to get some practice in and improve your skills.

Another great way that gaming chairs improve gaming performance is that you can buy games purposefully designed for specific gaming genres. Getting the right kind of gaming chair for the games you play will drastically improve how you interact with games. You’ll have greater control of your game and be closer to the action than ever before.

Sitting in a gaming chair makes it easier to hold and access your controller or keyboard. Having more control and a better range of motion while using a keyboard/controller means getting more out of your games.

Better for Your Eyes

Person in discomfort from straining their eyes.As with any kind of computer, computer games can put a real strain on your eyes. Playing games for too long can cause headaches or impair your vision. Gaming chairs let you adjust the height and angle of the chair so that your eyes are lined up with the screen. Having your eyes lined up to the screen is particularly important for people with large TVs or multiple monitor setups.

Another good thing about these chairs is that they move on wheels, so you’ll have no problem adjusting how close you are to the screen.

Fully Adjustable

The standard office chair goes up and down, and that’s about it. You get much more freedom with gaming chairs, which can be fully adjusted to suit your needs and preferences. You can customize just about anything on your chair, including the height, angle, lumbar support, and the angle of the armrests.

Some chairs let you add and remove parts as you need, or adjust the rotation and swivel as needed.

More Durable

The more you use a chair, the more worn down it is going to get. Gaming chairs are built to last. These chairs are designed to last far longer than the standard office chair. Gaming chairs can last you for years and be a significant part of your gaming life.

It doesn’t matter how long you play your games for; the excellent construction and materials that go into these chairs offer lasting support for years to come.

Improved Concentration

It’s impossible to focus when you’re uncomfortable. You’re sure to find yourself feeling the aches and pains of an intense, hours-long gaming session if you spend it on a sofa or a chair. There comes the point where you have to move around to get relief. You’ll need to stretch, take a walk around the room, or change seats entirely before you can get comfy again.

You have enough things to distract you when you’re playing a game; don’t let being uncomfortable be a distraction you don’t need.

More Comfortable

Man relaxing in a gaming chair It’s impossible to overstate the comfort benefits of using a gaming chair. The sheer comfort of sitting in them is one of the many reasons gaming chairs are worth it. Being uncomfortable makes your gaming sessions feel longer than they really are, and not in a good way.

Gaming chairs come with customized comfort. After you’ve made all the adjustments you want and have the chair set up just right, you’ll find that you’ve never sat in a chair like this before. You’ll really be able to feel the difference a gaming chair gives you when it comes to comfort.

Summary

Gaming chairs are worth it because they offer many benefits, including better concentration, health, and wellness. Gaming chairs reduce eye strain, support joints and muscles, and improve blood circulation.

If you’re putting money into getting gaming gear, then you should keep a gaming chair in mind. How to Take Care of Your Chair to Ensure it Lasts You for Years

Last Updated July 9, 2020

The gaming chair is an essential thing for every gamer, especially if they are professionals. It provides gamers with comfort while they play for hours. Gaming chairs are also expensive, and after buying a good gaming chair, you wouldn’t want to change it again and again.

Usually, the inexpensive gaming chairs aren’t good enough and so when you get an expensive one, make sure you take perfect care of it. Gaming chairs come with manual instructions on how to take care of them. It would be best if you stuck to the guide.

However, in case you have lost the guide, here is our guide in keeping your chair intact for years.

Vacuum the upholstery of the chair regularly

First, take a look at what upholstery your chair has, such as mesh, leather, PU, PVC, or fabric.

After this, you can vacuum or dust the dirt from your upholstery. Clean off the dirt and debris. If your chair’s upholstery is mesh or fabric, then you should use your vacuum cleaner. For the fabric upholstery, brush attachment will work great on it.

If the chair is made up of PVC, PU, or leather upholstery, then vacuuming is not essential, you can use a microfiber cloth for regular cleaning and dusting.

Cleaning and dusting should be done regularly, every once or twice a week.

Use Water or Solvent Solution

It would be best if you didn’t drink or eat near the chair, but it’s hard not to do that. So the chances are high that you may get a stain on your chair due to a spill or something.

To clean that, you can use water or solvent solution. On your chair, there is a label that either says S or W or S/W. S means you can use a solvent solution, and W means only water can be used. SW means you can use water and solvent solution both.

Where W is written, you can use a little dishwashing soap with it. On the mesh, you may also want to bloat it properly. Leather chairs are usually cleaned using only water. Make sure you are nicely rubbing the spill or stain area.

Spot Cleaning

No matter how clean you try to keep your chair, some stains remain even after cleaning them with water or solvent solution.

For these stains and spills, you should try spot cleaning methods using the rubbing alcohol. Before you apply the rubbing alcohol directly to the spot, do a test. Apply a little rubbing alcohol under the chair and check after a while if there is any damage.

If you see no damage, then apply it directly to the affected areas.

Don’t Forget the Base, Frame, and Armrest

This bit of cleaning is easier than the rest. The base, frame, and armrest can be cleaned by using soap or dishwashing detergent. Make a bowl with water and detergent in it than gently clean these areas with a cloth or sponge.

Check for the Caster Wheels and any Loose Screws

Caster wheels are a tight spot to clean as you have to go in every nook and cranny. First of all, you have to turn your chair and then take out all the hair and dirt trapped inside it.

After getting out the hair and the dirt, clean it using the crevices attachment of your vacuum. Clean all the crevices and for the caster wheels use alcohol swabs

After you are done cleaning each and everything, make sure you are tightening all the screws of your chair.

How to Maintain your Chair?

While cleaning, vacuuming, and dusting the chair is essential, there are some other things you can do to maintain your gaming chair.

Don’t Eat Near your Chair

Eating near your chair is not a great practice, and to maintain your chair, you should avoid eating near it. The chances of spills and stains are higher when food or drinks are around. Leave your chair for gaming, watching movies, and reading only.

If you can’t eat anywhere else than your chair, you must use a napkin or cloth for your chair’s safety.

Use Lubrication for the Caster Wheels

Your wheels may start squeaking after a while, and it may affect your chair’s gliding ability. So after you are done with cleaning your chair and its caster wheels, use something to lubricate them.

Also, keep your floor nice and tidy.

Use a Covering for your Chair

The upholstery of the gaming chair, either made of fabric, mesh, or leather, can tend to wear out and damage the chair. Use a chair covering if you want to give your chair some extra protection.

Use a good quality covering if you are doing so. It will ensure to prevent any wear and tear.

Special Tips

Chairs that have leather upholstery especially cannot maintain their A-one status for long if it frequently comes in contact with sweating.

Even when your leather chair says that it is water-resistant, you can’t be entirely sure about it because leather and other synthetic materials cannot be entirely water-resistant. If you are continuously sweating on these chairs, it will damage the balance of the pH. It would result in wearing off or peeling off the upholstery.

And so it is vital to use these chairs in a cool environment. This is for leather chairs only.

In terms of sweating on fabric and mesh chair, you may experience the smell of some sort, but otherwise, it will not be destroyed.

Conclusion

Keeping a gaming chair like new for a long time is not hard, and with little effort, you can maintain them well. After buying an expensive chair, you might as well want to secure it.

Keeping them clean is not even expensive, and just by following a few cleaning rules and avoiding some stuff, you will be able to enjoy the comfort of your gaming chair for a long time.

Before you follow our guide, make sure to read the manufacturer’s manual as well.

Gaming Chairs Aren’t Exclusive to Gamers – Why You Should Have One Too?

Last Updated July 3, 2020

What is the deal with gaming chairs and the ardent licensing of them belonging only to the gaming demons? Seems like a distinct disposition. But there is a lot of scoops to unravel regarding this agenda, folks!

A person relaxing on a gaming chair.

Shouldn’t it be evident that if a chair makes your bum-back feel comfortable for 12 hours of straight static sitting, it probably is the best purchase for you? Well, it should be!

Whether you are tinkering with Microsoft excel and zoom meetings all day long or pushing the limits as Desmond Miles in Assassin’s Creed, in both the scenarios, a gaming chair is the most ergonomic and comfortable choice for you.

But before we dwell more in-depth into the ubiquitous nature of gaming chairs, let us talk about their peculiar history.

The curious case of Gaming Chairs

Although the gaming industry gained a lot of traction in the 1970s, the gaming chair sector did not surface until August of 2006. The forerunner company, to launch the very first gaming chair, was DXRacer. The ideology behind these seats was that a gaming chair is a close kin of sport car chairs. It is a very peculiar comparison indeed.

An image of a DXRacer's gaming chair.

But when you think about it, there is substantial relevancy between the two types. It does make sense because gaming chairs somehow do make sitting as cool as it can get. But there is more to it than the quirkiness and luxury. Imitating the build of a sports car seat lends the gaming chair the stability and support it is known for.

The elevated backrest of the gaming chair allows for better back and shoulder support. The more support you get, the more aligned your sitting posture is. As philosophical as it may sound, the concept behind a gaming chair is combining comfort and challenging your body to sit more upright.

5 Reasons why everybody should be buying a gaming chair.

Whether you are working, studying, or gaming, all three acts have one thing in common. The necessity to remain seated for long intervals of time. And this resemblance is the core reason behind how a gaming chair lends positive wellness and productivity in your life.

Since a gaming chair is certainly not a light purchase, you are entitled to a better explanation of why you should be buying one, even though you are not a gamer. Hence, here are the key benefits of gaming chairs for everyone and anyone:

A higher level of comfort and better posture

All chairs start with the cold keg structure of a steel frame. It is then layered with the cured foam. Comparing, the padding of an office chair with that of a gaming chair, there is a stark difference in both quality and quantity. Gaming chairs have more secure and bulky padding, while office chairs cut up on that a lot.

Moreover, when you are sitting for a long time, your body starts adapting. You slouch more and your muscles contract. Over time, your body gets into a perpetual slouching posture while sitting upright becomes a chore. Or worse, you might not even realize how bad your posture is.

Gaming chairs with their thick padding serve as a sturdier base for your back and bum-bums. The tall backrest cradles the spine, and the adjustable neck pillow supports the natural curves of your body.

illustration of a person's posture on a gaming chair

All these factors add up to encourage you to sit in a healthier posture. When you feel like you have been in the same position for too long, you can always adjust the armrest, recline and cushion of your gaming chair.

More room for adjustments

If you have used an office or study chair before, you know that the adjustability factor truncates to moving your chair higher or lower. For a gaming chair, there are only a few components that are not up for adjustments. Manipulating your posture while doing any work stirs your body to sit better. It ensures no matter how many times your body tries to slouch, and your chair will always prevent it.

Here are the major adjustability factors that make a gaming chair superior for any use:

Adjusting the armrest

We all have a unique physical build to a certain extent—this why all gaming chairs have an adjustable armrest. While working, if your desk is taller or shorter, you can always adjust the armrest to best suit the height.

illustration of the armrests of a gaming chair

You can move the rest, up and down, forward, and backward, and side to side. Phew, that is a lot of motion.

Adjusting the backrest

The conventional office chairs are often equipped with a fixed backrest. It is in direct contrast with gaming chairs that have adjustable backrests. Most Of the models in the market today can recline up to 135 degrees while some may go as far as 180 degrees.

features in a gaming chair

While working, studying, or gaming, your ideal recline is at 110 degrees. While that might not be true for any other chairs, you can easily set your gaming chair on that angle.

Adjusting the seat

Seat adjustment is a given for a gaming chair. But the real difference comes with the ability to adjust the seat angle. It is a hallmark of gaming chairs, non-existent in regular working or study chairs. You can change the seat angle up to two different levels. You can also angle the backrest to be in sync with the seat to be as a single unit.

Final Thoughts:

gaming chair conclusionGaming chairs can make a big difference in the quality of your personal and professional life. Once you taste the comfort and adjustability of a gaming chair, you will never switch to any other alternative. And if you are worried about maintaining your gaming chair, your thoughts will be reformed once you get one. These chairs are surprisingly stubbornly evergreen, and cleaning is only a matter of minutes. Now that you know the real deal behind gaming chairs, it is time that you sit better and work better.
